Pedro Cabanas
Of Portuguese origin, he was born into poverty, under the yoke of a violent father who forever robbed him of his childhood. Very early on, he had to learn to live with this trauma, to tame the pain rather than flee from it.
To escape this blocked horizon, he chose the road, that of adventure and the unknown, in the hope of a brighter future. He found this future in the Foreign Legion.
Eighteen and a half years of service, loyalty, and self-improvement. Then circumstances led him to leave the institution earlier than expected. Leaving is always heartbreaking—whether you leave through the front door or the back door. But you never truly leave the Legion: it is etched in your blood, your heart, your soul. Once you're a Legionnaire, you're one forever. Today, Pedro is a happy man. He didn't wait for this happiness: he went looking for it, he conquered it, wrested it from life with the strength of his fists and his will. He will never cease to thank France, the country that extended a helping hand and allowed him to emerge from the darkness and reach the light.
For him, writing is a way of saying thank you. A cry from the heart, an eternal gratitude to life, to France, to the Legion.
